Partners and History
On May 1st 1995 the newly amalgamated pharmacy began business as Newstead Amcal Chemist and soon after changed to Newstead Capital Chemist, the name under which we now trade. Katrina Harper was born and raised in Launceston. Katrina studied her Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree at the University of Tasmania, Hobart and joined the Capital Chemist group as a pharmacist graduate and then become a partner in the Newstead Capital Chemist in August 2000. Sam Pankhurst is the newest member of the partnership group. Like Katrina he studied a Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Tasmania. After undertaking his pre-registration year in 2005 at Newstead, he has worked here since as a pharmacist and joined the partnership in March 2010 Harvey Cuthill has operated pharmacies in Newstead as well as Kings Meadows for over 30 years. Harvey is well known throughout the Launceston community through both the pharmacy and the many professional and charitable organisations he represents.
Newstead Medical hub: Newstead Capital Chemist is part of the larger Newstead Medical Hub that also encompasses Newstead Medical Services at 165 Elphin Rd, and 169 Health at 169 Elphin Rd. The services offered at these sites include, General Practice, Podiatry, Nurse Practitioner, Collection point and some sampling for Launceston Pathology, Psychology, and Speech Therapy. The close proximity of these health professionals allows us all to work as a team and have great communication between different areas of practice.
Professional Services Newstead Capital Chemist has in some shape or another served the local community for around thirty years. Our pharmacy has a service plan based on quality, ease of access and value to the customer. We are a Quality Care Accredited Pharmacy. While dispensing scripts and offering counselling and advice are the mainstay of our business, we also offer many other services and functions to the community. Some of these are:

Doug Will was born in Launceston and operated the former Laurie Wing Pharmacy as Doug Will Pharmacy for 16 years from 1979. In 1994 Harvey Cuthill, who had a pharmacy in direct opposition came and talked about the concept of amalgamation of the two pharmacies in the Newstead shopping centre.
